“A Cut Above” Takes State Title

Based out of Bedford, Virginia, “A Cut Above” bluegrass band took top honors and $1,000 prize winning the state championship held Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the Chesterfield Fairgrounds. In the process, the band gained many new fans and a spot in the Virginia Folk Music Association’s 2018 festival. There were 9 bands entered in the contest generating tough competition for the event. Band members are Daniel Creasy on banjo, Mike Walker on mandolin, Bob Brooke on Guitar, Don Bartlett on resonator guitar and Glen Davis on bass.  The second place band was The Hendersons from Fredericksburg, Virginia and the third place winner was Blue Connection out of the Salem, Virginia area.   Each band did a great job and it was a tough competition.  The audience was 'wowed' by some amazing talent that day.   The Virginia Folk Music Association was founded in 1947 and has been sanctioned by the governor’s office since the 50’s to name inductees into Virginia’s Country Music Hall of Fame and to hold state championships.
